I curate two Spotify playlists. When I update them I write short two-line reviews here. Sometimes the reviews are three lines. The rules are not strict.

Artist: Brendon Moon
Track: Patience
Location: Sydney, Australia

This is just beautiful. Brendon has an angelic voice. And I really dig the ethereal guitar and percussive rhythm. If Morrissey had a really high voice, and was (slightly) happier, the Smiths might sound like this.

Artist: UV Rays
Track: Overrated
Location: Brooklyn, NY

The UV Rays sound like classic NYC rock. Because they are. If CBGB was still around, you’d see them there. Oh… now I miss CBGB.

Artist: Fafa Galoure
Track: Falling from Wonder
Location: Tel Aviv, Israel

I’ve gone back to Fafa Galoure regularly in my own personal playlists over the last few months. Lead singer Efrat Cohen has a great classic sound that reminds me a little of Nico. Also, the guitar in this one is cool.

Artist: YUAR
Track: Exhale
Location: Tel Aviv, Israel

Somehow I ended up with another cool Tel Aviv artist. I’ve seen a few recently. I think there is something happening there. YUAR’s “Exhale” is a perfect little pop song based around Arina Popova’s beautiful voice and some really creative production.

Artist: Low Palms
Track: Estelle’s on a Tuesday

This is just a groovy little Chillhop vibe. A mellow guitar line, a funky hip-hop beat, and some ghostly jazz voices and trumpet in the distance. Chill.
