Two Line Reviews – Rock, Folk, and Funky Soul

Two Line Reviews - Rock, Folk, and Funky Soul 1

I curate two Spotify playlists. When I update them I write short two-line reviews here. Sometimes the reviews are three lines. The rules are not strict.

Artist: Al Moses
Track: Taxidermy
Location: Wales

Al Moses

This is two minutes and forty-three seconds of beautifully loud and chaotic Rock and Roll. Throw the Stooges, The Runaways, and the Sex Pistols into a blender. Plug the blender into a Marshall amp, and this is what you get.

Artist: Katie Ruvane
Track: True
Location: Nashville, TN

Katie Ruvane

The obvious draw here is Katie’s beautiful voice and airy harmonies. It’s just a great sound. However, the band is cool too. I really gig the little jazzy bits of guitar.

Artist: Tape Trash
Track: Ghost Town
Location: Norway

Tape Trash

I dig Tape Trash. Their song “Perfect Spring” was on the list back in May when it was released. “Ghost Town” is an excellent follow-up. They have a bit of an OK Go vibe, and that is a wonderful thing.

Artist: Orange Guava Passion
Track: Asphalt
Location: Rhode Island

Orange Guava Passion

This is some groovy lo-fi soul music. OGP is a group of students from Brown University. These kids can play. The lead singer has a great voice. Guitars, bass, drums, and horns… all cool.

Artist: J.B. Boone
Track: Hico
Location: Los Angeles, CA

J.B. Boone

J.B. Boone has a cool alt-folk sound here. He reminds me a bit of the Lumineers. He has a pretty cool story, having moved from Texas to LA. I can hear both in his sound. Also, nice banjo.
