Two Line Reviews – Intercontinental Pop, Rock, and Soul

Two Line Reviews

I curate two Spotify playlists. When I update them I write short two-line reviews here. Sometimes the reviews are three lines. The rules are not strict.

I love everything about this bad-ass song, by a bad-ass band, fronted by a bad-ass singer. Lyrically, the tune is a rapid-fire succession of attitude and cool. LOVE!

Song: Numb

Abbie Ozard

Numb is a perfect little Pop tune. I love Abbie’s use of harmonies over a simple Lo-fi beat. I’ve heard a lot of great Manchester-based musicians, like Ms. Ozard. There’s a real scene happening in the Northwest and Midland areas of the UK.

Two Line Reviews - Intercontinental Pop, Rock, and Soul 1

The fusion of low-fi pop and hip-hop on this song, paired with stream-of-consciousness lyrics, reminds me of something Andre 3000 might do. Cool stuff from this 17-year-old bedroom producer.

Artist: Linn Sandin
Song: No One to Lose
Location: Sweden

Linn Sandin

There should be no great mystery as to what drew me into this song. That voice, it is fabulous. Linn’s vocal style lands somewhere between Sarah McLachlan and Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine). The song is beautiful, and sad.

Artist: DEYO
Song: Overgrown
Location: NYC

DEYO

We’ll round out this update with just over two minutes of 70’s influenced Soul. DEYO adds a little Hip-hop, a little Jazz, and some fun background voices to support his smooth lead vocals.
