Policy is the professional name of Mark Buchwald. The Cleveland based artist is a multi-instrumentalist, DJ, producer, composer, engineer and award winning drummer. On June 9th, 2020 he released his brand new debut solo LP titled “Echo Chambers.” The ten song collection showcases Buchwald’s unique and creative mix of EDM and Pop music, utilizing both acoustic and electronic instrumentation.
“Reality” is the new single from “Echo Chambers.” The track combines a retro Alternative Electro-Pop melody and instrumentation with Ambient electronic soundscapes. The main groove of the song reminds me a bit of 1980’s electronic genius, Howard Jones. However, Buchwald takes the sound into some wildly creative directions. I particularly loved the acoustic violin solo. It adds a beautiful organic element to the track.
Throughout “Echo Chambers,” Policy collaborates with talented international female vocalists. On “Reality,” guest vocalist and violinist Tina Shest’s contributions are a real high point. She sings an infectious melody about life and its ultimate purpose. Through the course of the track she realizes her life is larger than the people pulling her down. Over a cool percussive rhythm she beautifully delivers a thoughtful and empowering message.
With keen pop sensibilities, old-school and new-school electronic elements and wildly creative instrumentation, Policy has created an unique and forward thinking sound.
