Buenos Diaz And The Perfect Alt-Pop Dream

Buenos Diaz is the absolutely fabulous name of the Austin band fronted by Texas native, Nick Diaz. Over the past decade or so, Nick has been making a name for himself on all corners of the Indie Rock scene. He has travelled Europe with a New Orleans Blues man, rocked the Village and beyond with NYC indie legends, and toured nationally with a Pop Punk band. Along the way, the self-taught songwriter and guitarist has honed his skills as he impressed some of the best.

In recent years Nick has left the supporting roles to step into the spotlight on his own, and people are taking notice. For the past three years Buenos Diaz landed a coveted “Showcasing Artist” spot in Austin’s world famous South by Southwest (SXSW) music conference and festival. Over the past five years Nick has released three albums and a handful of singles, all of which count their streaming numbers in the tens of thousands.

Dream

“Dream” is the latest single from Buenos Diaz, released October 9, 2020. With it’s simple four-chord mid-tempo groove, infectiously catchy melody, and sugary-sweet love song lyrics it is exactly what a Lo-fi Alt-Pop song should be. In a cool, laid back tone Nick sings the praises of his girl who loves him even, “when he’s doing nothing.”

Stylistally “Dream” brings to mind some of the great pioneering Alt-Pop singer songwriters of the late 70’s and early 80’s. If Joe Jackson’s “Look Sharp” and Nick Lowe’s “Cruel to Be Kind” got high and had a baby, it might sound a little something like “Dream.” Through the verse and chorus the band keeps a solid, simple and tasteful groove. The bridge opens up a bit to a cool bit of Alt-Rock guitar cacophony before quickly returning to that perfect chorus.
