Rasmus Fynbo is a Danish singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Greve, Denmark. He has been creating his unique brand of Alternative Pop/Rock for about 25 years, working professionally as Rasmus Fynbo since 2007. In that time the prolific musician has produced 7 studio albums and a handful of singles.
Working mostly as a solo artist, Rasmus occasionally employs the skills of other musicians. In this modern age of social distancing, those collaborations often involve musicians from around the world. His Pop/Rock sound is accentuated by an eclectic mix of styles and genres. About his sound the artist says, “I would describe my music as one-of-a-kind combination of Indie pop/ rock, as well as folk and Balcan music, with a pinch of cabaret.”
“Please Panic!” is the most recent album from Rasmus Fynbo, released worldwide to all major streaming services on March 12, 2021. The 7-song collection is an excellent example of the artist’s unique ability to deliver dark and often disturbing narratives in easily consumable and radio-ready, über catchy Pop/Rock morsels. His songs cover serious and complex subjects with sing-song melodies and pristine production.
I love songs that are filled with contrast and stories that are slightly grotesque.

From the opening track “Modern Stalker,” it is clear we are in for something different. The sound is equal parts modern Indie, 90’s Alternative and 60s Pop. A bouncy rhythm and infectious guitar hook meet lush harmonies and a Beatles-esque string quartet as Rasmus sings from the perspective of a creepy stalker. The dark themes and sing-along tunes continue on “Get up and Fight” as he chronicles the medical decline of a loved one.
“How We End” is a real highlight. The song tells the tale of a divorce from the inside, with layers of intricate vocal and instrumental melodic interplay, complete with a dramatic horn section. “Hindsight” gets back to the bouncy retro-Pop with a bit of ‘carpe diem’ motivation. However, even this positive message comes with a touch of gloom as he happily sings “You could be dying any day.”
The album’s title track is a deadly serious warning about the global climate crisis. This track and the subsequent “Back From the Ashes” take their cues from quirky 80’s/90’s Alternative artists like Talking Heads or They Might Be Giants. Although the Rasmus Fynbo sound almost inevitably takes a turn to his signature sugary Pop choruses. The final track on the album is the one exception to that rule. “Dusk” is a dark and violent fantasy that rolls along on a deep minor-key Alt/Rock groove which brings to mind some of the more cerebral work of the Tragically Hip.
From beginning to end, “Please Panic!” is a richly layered and deeply satisfying exploration of complex psychological themes and intricate yet immediately accessible Alternative Pop and Rock music.
