SirWillyD is a Rock & Roll singer, songwriter and guitarist from Granite Falls, NC. Over the last two years he and his band have released three albums and a handful of singles. Listing influences like early Metal pioneer Alice Cooper and Proto-punk legend Iggy Pop, SirWillyD is on a mission to bring a little nihilism back to Rock & Roll.
There is a space on the timeline of modern music somewhere between Classic Rock and Punk. It was a time when guitar solos wailed like the former while musicians played and lived with the abandon of the latter. It was the era of CBGB and philosophical rebellion. In American cities from New York to Detroit, groups like Iggy & The Stooges, Johnny Thunders, MC5 and The New York Dolls cranked their amps to eleven and basically lost their minds.
That’s where SirWillyD’s latest single “Eat or Be Eaten” comes in. With a Psychobilly groove reminiscent of The Cramps, he and his band rock out to a low and grungy guitar riff. Meanwhile the singer delivers a cryptic tale about surviving a Darwinian world and the wiles of a devilish woman. It’s a Swamp Rock party in your mom’s garage, and it’s a lot of fun
