Contessa Blue is a Phoenix, Arizona based musical trio with a taste for classic Blues, R&B, Soul and Jazz. Although the group converged in the Southwest, their members came together from points further East. Frontwoman and Chicago native Tarah Oliver is joined by Washington DC-bred pianist/acoustic guitarist David Robert Anderson and original Brooklynite, electric guitarist Chris Sabbarese.
The group regularly performs around the Phoenix area with a mix of originals and covers of their favorite artists like; Steely Dan, Amy Winehouse, The Rolling Stones, Etta James and more. Each member is also an in demand studio and stage musician. In 2019 the band made their professional recording debut with a cover of the Stones classic, “Beast of Burden.”
Since then they have connected with hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide through a steady string of singles, both covers and originals. For their most recent single, Contessa Blue covers the 1977 Steely Dan hit, “Black Cow,” released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 1, 2021. On the track the band delivers a smooth and tasteful rendition of the classic. The Contessa Blue take remains true to the Jazz/Pop groove of the original. However they give it a bluesier edge, thanks in large part to the soulful lead vocal of Tarah Oliver. The whole band is excellent throughout. Sabbarese does Larry Carlton proud with a fantastic guitar solo while Anderson lays down a chill foundation of keys and horns.
