Esbe is a singer, songwriter and producer from the United Kingdom. Classically trained, she earned an LRAM from the Royal Academy of Music, where she won the prestigious ‘Julian Bream Prize for Guitar.’ Ultimately she was drawn to composition and songwriting. Throughout her career, Esbe has worked in contemporary Pop, World Music and she has composed for film and television.
Since 2018, Esbe has released a series of albums, each with a distinct focus on a specific style of music, cultural origin and geographical location. She has recorded Middle Eastern music in the Middle East and Indian music in India. She has combined her love and deep understanding of Classical music with World Beat grooves from across the planet. During the 2020 pandemic she went to the studio with a mission to reinvent some of her favorite Pop classics by re-composing the chordal structures and musical arrangements beneath their beloved melodies. In September she will release the resulting album, “Under Cover.”
For the album’s first single, Esbe boldly tackled one of the greatest Pop songs ever written and transformed it into a completely new piece of work. On The Beatles legendary “Yesterday,” Paul McCartney sang a heartbreaking melody accompanied by acoustic guitar and a Classical string quartet. In Esbe’s hands the song has been transformed into a dark ambient meditation. Jazzy electric piano chords meet otherworldly sound effects and lush electronic strings as the singer delivers a dramatic and beautiful lead vocal.
