Cloutee is the professional name of emerging Hip-hop artist, Devin Colaire. With ties to both Miami and Chicago, the talented young rapper has been making a name for himself over the past couple of years with a series of popular single releases to SoundCloud and other major streaming services. Now, more than two years since its initial release, his debut single is blowing up.
“Took Some Time” by Cloutee is a song with an interesting history and an exciting future. The track was originally released to SoundCloud nearly three years ago. In 2020 the rapper dropped the tune to other streaming services like Spotify and iTunes. In 2021 it is suddenly taking off. The song is approaching one million streams online with over 840K spins on SoundCloud alone. This sleeper track is starting to look like a real hit.
The song rides on a mellow, downtempo Trap groove. Deep 808 bass hits are paired with a chill nylon string guitar loop. Meanwhile Cloutee drops an autobiographical and confessional narrative about the hard times he faced after losing family members. It’s a powerful story, delivered by a skilled emcee who delivers his rhymes with the cool mix of a laid-back tone and a rapid-fire melodic rap flow.
