John Vento’s New Take On A 60’s Classic

john vento

We first heard from John Vento way back in July of 2019 upon the release of his single “Humble Way.” That track introduced us to a Rock & Roll veteran and legend of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania music scene. The song was a stylistic shoutout to the singer’s heroes, mixing 60’s and 70’s Classic Rock vibes. Vento paired Rolling Stones and AC/DC-style guitar riff-Rock with his soulful rasp and classic backing vocals. Since then, the prolific rocker has dropped a string of popular singles including a half dozen in 2021 alone.

“For What It’s Worth” is the latest single from John Vento, released worldwide to all major streaming services on July 22, 2021. The track is a cover of the Buffalo Springfield classic about socio-political strife of the 1960s. Vento reinvents the song, modernizing the sound for our equally troubled but very different times.

The track opens with the familiar acoustic guitar riff from the original. However, in the chorus the song takes on a more modern groove with heavy Grunge guitars. By the second verse the track has landed firmly in Modern Rock territory with a heavy beat and a nice crunchy bass line. An ensemble of singers trade verses as the tune moves through funky breakbeats and a healthy dose of arena-Rock guitar solos. It’s a big, powerful sound and a creative retake on a classic.
