Alex Goss is a singer, songwriter and guitarist from Charleston, South Carolina. For the past 15 years he has performed and recorded with countless other musicians and ensembles. Now for the first time, in 2021 Goss is going solo. He will soon release his debut album, and he recently dropped its first single with his band ‘the dirty mask.’
Born out of lockdown, the band consists of producer Dwayne Greenhill on bass guitar, veteran musician Greg Levkus on drums, Alex’s brother Matt Goss on keyboards and the man himself singing and playing guitar. “Just Be Kind” is the debut single from Alex Goss and the dirty mask, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 20, 2021.
With a background in Alternative Rock and Punk, Alex Goss eventually grew to appreciate the music of the 1950’s and early 60’s. He now cites artists like Ray Charles and Elvis Presley as inspiration. We can hear all of these influences in “Just Be Kind.” An Indie rock ensemble of guitar, bass, drums and keys lays down a bit of Grunge soul.
The star of the show is Alex Goss’ deeply soulful lead vocal. His mix of modern Rock, Pop and R&B brings to mind the brilliant early work of Terence Trent D’Arby (aka Sananda Maitreya). However, Goss’ sound bypasses that polished 80’s Soul in favor of some raw and real Rock & Roll. The result is a cool, bluesy Rock romp that is one part Motown and one part Seattle.
This project just kind of happened. We were all locked down in the states and bored out of our minds. I was dozing off in my bed and this melody just came to me.
