David Brookings is a storyteller who has spent the better part of the last 20 years blending the sounds of classic 60’s Pop and 90’s singer/songwriter Alternative Rock into his own unique Indie vibe. However, his musical journey started long before the 2000 release of his first album “Sounds Off.” Now based in Northern California, the Richmond, Virginia native made his professional debut at just 11 years-old when he performed his first original composition “All I’ll Ever Want” at a middle school talent show.
The excitement and energy of that experience was the inspiration for David Brookings’ forthcoming full-length album “Mania at the Talent Show.” Set to drop on November 12, 2021, the record promises more of his signature Power-Pop sound. Recorded remotely with Richmond-based engineer Josh Scolaro, the album is a showcase for the singer’s character driven musical storytelling. David provides a preview of what’s to come with a brand new tale of a love not forgotten.
“Get Off (My Mind)” is the latest single from David Brookings, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 27, 2021. In this modern Indie torch song, the singer tries in vain to shake the haunting memory of his first love. The familiar tale is set to a pristine Pop production which pairs REM-style jangly guitar with Beach Boys inspired harmonies and the sugary Brit-Pop innocence of The Turtles. Lush layers of keys, guitars and vocals recall the sophistication of similarly influenced 80’s and 90’s acts like The Posies and XTC, in this nugget of universally relatable radio-ready Pop.
I try to always write about different interesting things, projecting myself as a character in various situations and creating a musical movie around that.
