Regular readers of The Static Dive are well acquainted with Liberty_C (aka Katja Cruz). She has appeared on these pages numerous times over the past two years with stellar releases like “Time to Grow” and “Remedy.” Those songs introduced a multifaceted artist from Graz, Austria who has spent a lifetime creating. Katja is a singer, songwriter and accomplished sculptor.

Katja Cruz introduced her Liberty_C project during the pandemic. Since then the prolific singer has released a half dozen singles as well as the full length album “Free to Be Me.” Her songs are visceral, tapping directly into the universal hope, fear, love and anxiety which define our troubled times. Her timeless Adult Contemporary sound is built on the great traditions of classic Pop and Jazz songwriting.

“Queen of My Life” is the powerful new single from Liberty_C, released worldwide to all major streaming services on May 20, 2022. It is nearly closing time in a smoky late night Jazz club. Most of the crowd has gone home and Liberty_C steps to the mic for her final number. The song is a melancholy ballad in which the singer looks back on past successes, failures, loves and heartbreaks. Though it has a wistful tone, the song’s message is ultimately empowering. A small acoustic Jazz quartet sets the mood as the singer takes stock of her journey and recognizes, “It’s the flame of my heart that makes me shine.” It’s beautiful.
