Hard Rubbish is a unique musical duo from Sydney, Australia making their debut in 2022 with a sound born of decades past. Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, modern music jumped on a wave of technological advancement that continues to this day. Just as rock & roll was exploding across the airwaves, country music was experiencing its own renaissance as artists like Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash brought their music out of the mountains and into the mainstream.
Half a world and half a century away, Hard Rubbish have found solace from our harried times in the innocence and authenticity of traditional country music. Promising “a barn stompin’ good time full of hoedowns and hootenannies,” the group is hitting the Sydney scene with honky-tonk tales of livin’ and lovin’. For the rest of the world, they have their debut single.
“Ball and Chain” is the brand new song from Hard Rubbish, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 10, 2022. A no-frills acoustic guitar opens the track before the beat drops on a lo-fi organic 12-bar country/blues that sounds as though it has been transmitted directly from an AM radio in Nashville circa 1957. Like an early-era Loretta Lynn, the singer steps to the mic with the tale of her no-good man. It’s a lot of fun.
