Austrian soul/pop chanteuse Liberty_C (aka Katja Cruz) is back with a brand new single and an edgier sound. Regular readers of the blog will remember the multi-talented singer/songwriter from previous singles like “Remedy” and “Queen of My Life.” A house remix of the latter was also released in collaboration with the House of Static production team (Kilo House and The Static Dive).
The multi-talented Cruz is also an accomplished and internationally-acclaimed sculptor. She was trained from an early age in multiple disciplines. Music has always played a central role in the artist’s life and work. She debuted the Liberty_C. project in 2020 with the crooner “Baby, I Miss You.”
“Honesty” is the latest single from Liberty_C, released worldwide via all major streaming services on November 25, 2022. Although she is based in Graz, Katja’s sound has always had a bit of NYC flare. “Honesty” leans in on that vibe with a Broadway meets CBGB edge, as the singer serves up a scathing takedown of “liars, traitors, parasites, secretive people, and swindlers.”
Markus Adams’ saxophone opens the track from a lonely downtown street corner. Soon the beat drops on a mid-tempo post-punk/alt-rock groove reminiscent of Ireland’s The Boomtown Rats or NY’s legendary Television. Drummer Ernesto Grieshofer maintains a steady jazz/rock simmer until Andreas Sassi Krampl puts an exclamation point on it with a smoking Jaco-inspired bass solo.
