Zachary Campos is an independent singer, songwriter, rapper and producer from San Jose, California. A talented writer and multi-instrumentalist, Campos’ sound is a unique hybrid of modern indie-rock, old-school hip-hop and classic alternative. Regular readers of The Static Dive will recognize the singer as his former alter ego, Mr. Johnny Ba$h.
A veteran of the NorCal underground scene, Zachary has produced an impressive volume of work as a solo artist. Over the past 12 months the prolific creator has released at least four EPs and a half dozen singles. His latest is also the first to be released under his given name.
“Uninhibited” is the current single from Zachary Campos’ brand new EP Mandela Zen, released worldwide via all major streaming services on December 20, 2022. The song is an indie-rock/alt-hip-hop meditation on insecurity and mental health, as seen through the eyes of a drunk and disillusioned musician.
A downtempo lo-fi drum machine introduces the track. Soon a mellow bass line and low-tuned guitar enter the mix. Zachary steps to the mic for freestyle about suicide, destiny and creative passion, with a flow that is equals parts hip-hop, darkwave and outlaw country.
