Ben Shelly Breaks The Future’s Hold

ben shelly

We first heard from Ben Shelly back in 2021 when he made his solo professional recording debut with singles like “Stay Golden Pony Boy” and “High Again Then Low”. Those tracks introduced a genre-bending multi-instrumentalist with an adventurous creative spirit and an interesting backstory to match.

Ben Shelly was born in Israel and raised in Queens, New York. He is a US citizen, in case anyone’s asking. Growing up, Ben had dual aptitudes in money and music. He spent a decade on Wall Street as a successful trader. However, his true passion eventually called him to escape the concrete jungle for an island paradise. He now makes music from his home in Kailua, Hawaii.

Since his debut, the prolific producer has released three albums and a handful of singles. Raised in the golden age of 90’s alternative rock and hip-hop, Ben’s music is a rich genre-fluid mix of chill beats, psychedelic rock vibes and introspective, often esoteric social commentary. His sound continues to evolve with each new release.

“The Future’s Hold” is a popular single from The Gentle Art, the second of three albums Ben Shelly released in 2022, available worldwide on all major streaming services. The song opens on trippy stoner-rock guitars and synths. Ben steps to the mic and the beat drops on a mellow hip-hop groove. Soon the track transforms into a rousing psychedelic pop/rock anthem with lo-fi EDM vibes and an infectiously rhythmic hook.
