Abhi Ananda is an emerging independent singer-songwriter making his international recording debut in 2023. Although new on the scene, the Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist began his musical life 20 years ago in his native Indonesia. He has worked in a number of bands over the years, however his latest project is an entirely solo affair.
Music brought Abhi Ananda to the United States when he relocated to LA to pursue his creative endeavors. With a sound built on elements of folk, pop, and alternative rock, he writes personal and introspective songs about life, love, and self-discovery. Unlike most modern musicians, Ananda doesn’t use any social media to promote his music, as he believes those platforms will make it difficult for artists to be authentic to their true selves.
Exulansis is the debut album from Abhi Ananda, available worldwide via all major streaming services. The nine song collection is a thoughtful and melancholy examination of the singer’s personal and creative journey. From the inspirational Dylan-esque “The Dream Is Still Alive” to the lovelorn melancholy of the piano instrumental “Lost in You”, the genre-bending album pairs expert musicianship with poetic and introspective lyricism
Throughout the album, Abhi Ananda blends elements of singer-songwriter genres from across the decades. There is a strong 90’s alt-pop vibe that runs through emotional ballads like “Heaven”, “Making Peace with Myself”, and “Come Home”. Elsewhere the singer mixes in bits of modern lo-fi indie-pop (“Change of Heart”), poetic acoustic prog-rock (“The Bird’s Song”), and some gospel tinged alt-folk (“I Will Be Strong”).
