Vard Bars is the professional name of independent hip-hop artist, Joshua Lister Sr. A native of the Chicago suburb Elk Grove Village, IL, he made his wide-distribution solo recording debut in 2022. However, he’s no newcomer. The veteran rapper has been dropping bars on the Second City scene since 2007.
Inspired by old-school hip-hop, Vard Bars is driven by a desire to bring an artistry back to the genre which he feels it has lost in recent years. Working with talented producers like The Martianz, and with a focus on lyricism and flow, the multifaceted rapper holds his music to a high standard. He is on a mission to change the game, and to shine a light on the legends of rap.
