Silia - Strawberry Skies
‘Strawberry Skies’ immediately grabbed my attention. I didn’t know what to think, but I couldn’t stop listening. The record is a two-track single from Silia Stamatiadis. Although still not 20 years old, the multi-instrumentalist from Thessaloniki, Greece is a music industry veteran with three albums and a string of singles under her belt.
Performing simply as Silia, the talented young composer has created a sonic world of lo-fi experimental classical music. It’s intoxicating. I’m about a dozen tracks in and still listening.
Fans of genre-bending pioneers like The Residents will dig her music. There’s a definite Thelonious Monk influence in both her piano playing and her general avant-garde style. And I love the organic, lo-fi, DIY vibes throughout.
I’ve added the Strawberry Skies title track, as well as the wonderful B-side Nineteen to the Deep Dive Jazz & Classical playlist. Take a deep dive of your own into her extensive, weird, and wonderful catalog.
RealLaMusiq - Prayer Time Original
