Today is my birthday. The best birthday presents are those items you really want but for which will probably never, on your own, justify the expense. In my case, a theremin fits the bill perfectly. Fortunately, my fiance and my daughter are awesome, so I got one.
What is a theremin, you ask? Wikipedia says…
The theremin is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the thereminist (performer). It is named after the Westernized name of its Soviet inventor, Léon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928.Wikipedia
Have you ever watched Doctor Who? Of course you have. A theremin is the instrument playing the main melody in the theme song.
Played well, it sounds a bit like a woman’s voice. Here is a great example…
I do not play the theremin well, as is evidenced by my Instagram video above. In my hands it just sounds like some weird electronic toy. But, I’ve only had it for a few hours. I’m working on it. Anyway, I encourage you to look into the theremin more. It is a super cool instrument. If I eventually figure out how to play it, then I will share my creations here.
