I curate two Spotify playlists. When I update them I write short two-line reviews here. Sometimes the reviews are three lines. The rules are not strict.

Artist: Eamonn Watt
Song: Drive on, Sunday Child
Location: Shetland Islands, UK

The main ascending piano riff really caught my ear on this track. The song has a great nostalgic feel. It sounds like the theme music to a ballroom dance scene in an old Fred Astaire movie, played over a hip-hop beat.

Artist: Fotiz Liberis
Song: Nostalgia
Location: Athens, Greece

One of my favorite things about instrumental electronic music is how the absence of vocals encourages artists to explore the tone and timbre of found sounds. ‘Nostalgia’ lays down a beautiful synth vibe while occasional sounds from the cosmos find their way in and out of the mix.

Artist: Purrple Cat
Song: Entering the Dream World
Location: help, i’m trapped inside a cat’s body

When I saw the artist’s name and the song title, I knew what I wanted this tune to sound like. I was not dissapointed. I would like very much if my dream world were to sound like this chill atmosphere the Cat has created.

Artist: Asleep Within Waves
Song: Running Down a Dream
Location: Port Saint Lucie, Florida

In keeping with the dream theme, Asleep Within Waves sets a perfect ambient seascape tone. I’ll put on my musician hat for a moment and say that I really like the composer’s choice of chords. A couple of unexpected 7ths and 9ths gave it a cool feel.

Artist: Whispers from the Sea
Song: Airport
Location: Ghent, Belgium

‘Airport’ is one half of Whispers from the Sea’s latest two track release, ‘Spring Vibes I’. It’s a cool two minute smooth guitar chillout vibe lying on a lo-fi beat and a little bit of keys.
