I curate two Spotify playlists. When I update them I write short two-line reviews here. Sometimes the reviews are three lines. The rules are not strict.

Artist: Jetski Babylon
Track: Hollow
Location: Southampton, UK

I knew thirty seconds into ‘Hollow’ that I was going to add it. This tune is 3:32 of cool-ass guitar and bass. That’s not to take away from the vocals and drums, because both are excellent. Great band, and a great name.

Artist: Hugh/Amaroun
Track: Sober
Location: London, UK

The chill beat and mellow vibe of the vocals on this tune are right up my alley. I’m a new Hugh fan. The main lyrical refrain in this tune is great, “I’ve been drunk over you. But, I’m sober now. It’s over.” Ouch!

Artist: Pink Molly
Track: California Summer
Location: Worldwide

Tone color is one of the most important tools in instrumental music. Mood in an instrumental track can be defined by EQ, reverb, and mic placement. In some cases they can matter even more than chord structure or melody. I like the vibe Pink Molly sets with tone color on this track.

Artist: Tape Trash
Track: Perfect Spring
Location: Oslo, Norway

Sometimes you cue up a song and it is instantly familiar. All of the parts move together in Perfect Spring. It is a great alt/pop/rock tune with some really nice instrumentation. And, though the song just ended, I am still singing the chorus in my head.

The beat and vibe of this track fit perfectly between the folds of my grey matter today. What more could I hope for? Beautiful.
