Brandon James is an R&B and soul artist from Chicago, IL. James began making music in Junior High school as an escape from a difficult life at home as a latchkey kid. His mother worked long hours and his father battled with alcoholism. Music became both a creative outlet and a means for the shy child to create a social life. He fell in love quickly and entered high school determined to pursue a musical life.
Since then Brandon has done exactly that. He earned a degree in music performance and business from the Columbia College of Chicago. He also took voice lessons from Bobby Wilsyn, Ars Musica, and Andrew Schultze. Of course, it has not all been about academics. James earned his stripes performing as well. He has played with Earth, Wind & Fire, and performed at some of Chicago’s most notable venues including the UIC Pavilion and the House of Blues.
“Drifting” is the new single from Brandon’s EP of the same name. The deceptively simple piece is a perfect showcase for the singer’s beautiful and versatile voice. Accompanied only by the Jazzy folk chords of an acoustic guitar, James delivers a hypnotic love song. As his lead vocal floats breezily through multiple octaves it is further buoyed by the lush and creative arrangement of his own layered background vocals. Using only a guitar and his voice, the artist has created a richly complex tapestry of sound.
