VOLUME 1: FLIGHTS OF FANTASY by The Groove Project has arrived. Regular readers of The Static Dive are already well acquainted with The Groove Project. We have been following them on their year-long journey to the completion of the album. Each month since October 2019, the 8-piece international super-group has released a new single in advance of the album. And now, the aeronautically themed Smooth Jazz LP is here.
The GROOVE PROJECT was formed by GRAMMY® Award nominated Artist & Producer ARUN SHENOY. The current lineup is fronted by SHENOY and acclaimed producer MATTHEW SHELL. The ensemble includes keyboardist & vocalist LONNIE PARK, saxophonist MARCUS MITCHELL and keyboardist DAVID JOUBERT. All are collectively credited with songwriting.
As part of their international lineup the group features GLENN WELMAN from UK on the drums, HECTOR RUANO from Venezuela on bass and Norway’s SAMITURU on guitar. The vocalization by PARK adds a unique signature sound to the high energy sound of the group’s music. PARK also serves as the mix engineer for the group while SHELL serves as the primary songwriter for the project. The band recently added sax player DOUGLAS LIRA to their ranks, as featured prominently in this incredible music video.
The singles and videos released by the band to support the album have gotten a lot of traction on mainstream terrestrial and digital radio in major markets across the US. Two songs, “Leap of Faith” and “Beyond the Atmosphere” have been picked up by Spotify Editorial Playlists. Of course, the songs have appeared here as well. To commemorate the release of VOLUME 1: FLIGHTS OF FANTASY, The Groove Project has released a brand new video for “Beyond the Atmosphere.” Check it out above. You can read my original article on the single here.
