Chris Beer and the Peaceful Defiance of “Anytime Soon”

Chris Beer is a wildly creative singer, songwriter and producer from Vienna, Austria. With his debut album “Lion in the Sun” (2016), he introduced his uniquely infectious brand of uplifting and eclectic Alt-Pop. That record, and a subsequent series of singles, have connected with fans worldwide. Song’s like “Remember to Forget” and “Home” have racked up thousands of spins online.

“Anytime Soon” is the title track and single from Beer’s highly anticipated sophomore album. With its smart lyrics, cool instrumentation and Chris’ sincere and soothing vocals the song is an excellent representation of the distinctive niche this talented artist has carved out for himself. It’s an excellent song with a melody that will stick in your head and a sentiment that will strike a slightly deeper chord.

Lyrically “Anytime Soon” is a song of gentle defiance and resilience in the face of adversity. With both literal and figurative hurricanes in his path, Chris declares his intent to stay and face the rain. With all of the beautifully human unearned confidence he can muster he says simply, “I’m still standing here today, and ain’t going away any time soon.” It is a sentiment we can all relate to in 2020. We’re standing strong. We have no choice.

Chris’ songwriting style definitely falls in the “singer/songwriter” column. However, he pepper’s his sound with a cool mix of production styles from across multiple genres and decades. At the heart of “Anytime Soon” is a funky Lo-fi Hip-Hop beat. A mellow electric guitar carries the chord progression with a hint of tremolo. It’s a cool sound that lands somewhere between “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and Nirvana’s “All Apologies.” The melodica flourishes in the chorus are a nice touch as well.
