Cyborg Asylum Reinvents a New Wave Classic – Invincible

Cyborg Asylum is the New York City based electro post-industrial Alt-Rock duo of David Varga and John Tumminia. Varga is a classically trained, Emmy award winning music composer and producer who has worked on scores for commercials, TV shows, movies and video games. A skilled guitarist and versatile vocalist, Tumminia has worked in successful bands around the globe. John came to New York from his home in Philadelphia years ago and eventually landed the extremely cool day job as manager of Electric Lady, Jimi Hendrix’s legendary recording studio.

For their latest release, the duo has re-imagined a classic 1980s pop smash. On “Invincible,” Cyborg Asylum filters Pat Benatar‘s legendary hit through their own futuristic cybernetic Rock & Roll vision. The track opens with a low rumbling Grunge bass and drum into.

Layers of guitars and synths paint a stark soundscape. Varga mixes electronic and organic elements for a brave reinvention of this classic tune. Tumminia’s vocals bring to mind classic Modern and Progressive Rock vibes. The song builds to a dramatic electronic crescendo in the bridge. It is a cool and powerful groove that would sound at home on a dystopian Science Fiction movie soundtrack.
