Tension Rising has been delivering their unique brand of Hard Rock to the New York City area since 2008. Fronted by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Chris Garrigan, the band’s sound is a distinctive mix of Metal in its many forms with elements of Classic Rock and Alternative. Lead guitarist Nicky Van Page and bassist Alex Repetti join Garrigan in creating a feel that is at once hard-hitting and nuanced.
“Doomsayer” is the latest single from Tension Rising, and their third this year. The title is a play on the term “soothsayer,” a word historically used to describe fortune tellers, oracles and prophets. In this particular case, the fortune the Doomsayer is telling is that of the end of days. The song’s protagonist seeks out the Doomsayer and his request is granted, with bad news for us all. The track feels like the theme song for 2020 as it lists the many ways in which society will suffer.
Doomsayer is a song essentially about the end of days. A bleak viewpoint of the world around us from one man who stands in the midst of absolute chaos.

Musically, the track rocks hard. The verse rolls on a low Pantera-like groove riff. Garrigan’s vocal shifts from a guttural growl to a Lemmy Kilmister snarl. In the chorus the sound opens up to more of an Alt-Rock vibe with a sustained, almost Emo vocal that brings to mind some of My Chemical Romance’s heavier stuff. Throughout the track the entire band rocks, and in a perfectly synced airtight rhythm. And Page shreds a pretty bad-ass solo after the bridge.
