Lavallette is a new retro Synth-Pop artist from the Garden State. The project is the brainchild of producer and songwriter Daniel Schuster. He appropriated the stage name from a small beach town on the Jersey shore where he spent summers as a child. With the music of Lavallette, Daniel nostalgically conjures the whimsical mood of those seemingly endless summers.
“Promises” is the second single from Lavallette, released September 18, 2020. The song is the artist’s first collaboration with talented vocalist Sophia Sorrentino. The breezy track flows in like a smooth low tide wave. A soft analog synth pad sets the mood for a romantic walk on the beach, circa 1985. The song is unapologetically retro. The synthwave production faithfully employs authentic 80’s sounds, from the tone of the bass to the reverb on the snare drum.
Sorrentino sings a romantic song of love and longing with a cool tone and expert execution. She shows exceptional range, especially through the song’s many ancillary harmonies and transitions. The singer sounds right in step with the nostalgic vibe of the track, perfectly expressing the romantic naivete of lyrics transported from a simpler time.
