Jey Flores is an ambient Pop singer and songwriter from Montreal, Quebec. Since her debut in 2010 the Canadian songstress has released a string of successful singles, EPs and videos. She has performed high profile gigs around the world, including a spot as the closing act at the prestigious Rose D’Or Film and TV award show in Luzern, Switzerland. She has also opened for established artists like American R&B group 112 (“Peaches N Cream”).
“Where I’m Supposed to Be” is Jey Flores latest release. The five song EP showcases the artist’s unique blend of Ambient Electronic, Dance and Pop music. Jey collaborated with co-writers and producers Bobby John and Murray Daigle to create the record’s smooth fusion of EDM styles and keen Pop sensibilities. From the opening atmospheric synths and subtle Island grooves of “Free” through the downtempo Trip-Hop inspired moods of “I Was Wrong” and “I Wish You Well,” the record moves through the many moods of electronic music.
Thematically the EP chronicles the various phases of romantic relationships. Jey explores breakups, the fallout that ensues and the uncertainty (“Can You Handle It”). The closing track is also the EP’s first single. In both subject matter and style, “Love (Like There’s No Tomorrow”) is the record’s most upbeat and uplifting song. Gone are the heartbreaks and confusion. In their place Jey finds the promise and excitement of new love.
The single rolls on an upbeat dance groove. With an infectious Pop hook, a driving Deep House beat and soft ambient synths the track pulls us in to the beautifully sublime optimism of a brand new romance. Flores’ vocals are soft, soulful and perfectly embody the song’s serene optimism. The production takes some cool creative twists, including a groovy bit of psychedelia in the bridge in which overlapping vocals and bass swells create a nice ethereal mood.
