Arcadnis is the professional name of singer, songwriter and composer Joanna Krystyniecka. The Kraków based artist made her solo debut last year with a series of singles and YouTube videos. With them she introduced a uniquely engaging electro-pop style. Her music draws from a wide range of genres, including; electronic, synthwave, new wave, alternative, synth pop, shoegaze, ambient, downtempo and sadcore.
“Jupiter” is Arcadnis’ latest single, released October 9, 2020. The song is the first in a series of three new singles to be released in anticipation of the singer’s forthcoming debut album. With its lush ambient moods and a downtempo beat that feels like a lonely late night stroll, “Jupiter” perfectly encapsulates the artist’s signature noir vibe. Subtle electronic arpeggios and electric piano fills float in the periphery like distant indecipherable words.
At the heart of the track is Arcadnis’ sultry, melancholy voice. Her airy and relaxed delivery brings to mind scenes of a smoky, neon-lit nightclub in the wee hours of the morning. At times her tone hints at singers like Morcheeba’s Skye Edwards or 80’s legend Kate Bush. It is a soft and dreamlike sound, riding a Trip-hop groove just above a whisper.
