Lisa E Williams is a singer, songwriter and storyteller from, “all over the world.” The self proclaimed military brat grew up listening to classic Pop and Rock music on her father’s reel to reel tape deck. She fell in love with the sounds of the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and all of the great Classic Rock artists of the 1960’s. By the time she was ten years old Lisa had taught herself to play the guitar.
In the subsequent years, Lisa went on to write and record her own songs. In addition to her early exposure to 60’s Rock, Lisa is influenced by 70’s singing and songwriting legends like James Taylor and Dan Fogelberg. Similar to that of her heroes, Lisa’s music keeps one foot in the Pop/Rock world and the other in Folk. Over the past decade she has released a series of singles, albums and EPs on multiple formats.
“Set Me Free” is Lisa E Williams’ latest single. Originally released in March of this year, the song has recently been getting renewed attention. The track is a heartbreaking lament, part Folk song, part dark Pop ballad. Lisa’s soulful vocal is paired with a haunting piano and stark, minimalist percussion. Lush synths create a broad horizon and a world in which the singer can shine. She sings of the confusion and loneliness of fighting one’s demons.
The song is about overcoming addiction and anxiety while the voices in your head tell you something different. I hope this will help my friends, and anyone who is struggling.
