Vivaswan is an innovative Hip-hop artist creating a whole new genre of urban music. Born in India and raised in California, the singer and rapper has one foot in the West and the other in the deep rooted traditions of his home country. On his latest single, Vivaswan teams up with like minded multicultural music producer Jay Singh, known professionally as Indian Trap. Regular readers of The Static Dive are familiar with the prolific creator‘s work with artists like Katrina Kusa and Priscilla Gypsxy.
“Whatever it Cost” is the brand new single born of the meeting of these two creative minds. The song is a wildly creative mix of Trap beats, Pop hooks and traditional Indian melodies. As Vivaswan delivers a hard hitting rap, Indian Trap matches his style with a slow, pounding 808 Trap beat. Exotic falsetto vocals sing traditional Indian melodies in the periphery with synth swells and syncopated rhythmic elements. The artist explains that the choice of instrumentation is entirely intentional.
The track features other sound healing instruments, like the Shankha (conch) which has been used to signify the beginning of ceremony, or battle for millenia now. Growing up in the urban jungles as well as the rural ones, this track is a perfect matrimony of the two sides of my life.
