Ferny G’s Emotionally Rich And Genre-Fluid “What Else Do I Do?”

Ferny G

Ferny G is an aspiring Hip-Hop artist from the far Northwest town of Bellingham, Washington. Although he is only 21 years old, Ferny has been writing and performing his own original music for over 5 years. He spent that time honing his skills and expanding upon them. Primarily a singer, he began rapping at the age of 16 and incorporated it into his music.

The sound born of this experimentation and exploration can be found on Ferny G’s debut EP “What Else Do I Do?” released November 14, 2020. The five song collection finds the artist uniquely combining his singing skills with Hip-hop beats, rapping and a songwriter’s lyricism. The record moves us smoothly through its many moods.

The EP opens with “Dream,” a melodic rap set to a downtempo beat with Caribbean flare. The song focuses on the need to define and pursue our dreams. “Ice on Me” follows with a fun, summertime Latin groove. Vocally Ferny slides between his rap and singing voice on this old school Hip-hop brag tune.

“Bigboythings” is a hard rap diss track chronicling family disputes, set to a funky UK Grime inspired beat. It is a great groove with a ton of attitude. “What You Wanted” follows and takes us in a completely different direction. The song is an emotional heartbreaker of a Dark Pop ballad, dedicated to a lost love. It’s a beautiful track. “Spectacular” closes the record with a Trap beat set to a low droning bass, setting the mood for a fun bit of posturing.

“What Else Do I Do?” is a rich and versatile record that shows us many sides of the young and talented, Fermy G. Check out his introductory video, above. You can hear “What You Wanted” on the Deep Indie Dive playlist. Follow the links below to connect with Ferny G.
