John Dee is a rapper from Albany, NY with a style that stays true to the fundamentals of the original East Coast pioneers. He’s got his eye on the future, but for John that does not mean bending to the trend of the day or flash in the pan studio tricks. His deeply personal, confessional rap and his clear no-nonsense flow brings to mind great NY rappers like Jay-Z and LL Cool J. Among is influences John also lists; Biggie Smalls, Tupac, Michael Jackson , Nas and Justin Timberlake
“My Pain” is John’s latest single in which he recounts a recent event that nearly took his life. In the video (shot by Director DizzyDott of GoodFellazFilmz) John raps on the steps of a church in his beloved hometown as he thanks God and his family for pulling him through. It’s an honest and emotional tale and he delivers it with a smooth, laid back roll.
The track is built on an old-school Hip-Hop breakbeat and some funky Minor 7th piano chords. It’s a great sound that sets a groove and still leaves plenty of room for the rapper to tell his story.
