Mauri Dark is the professional name of Mauri Kosonen, a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Turku, Finland. After 25 years of playing in bands, Mauri is now releasing his first solo album. Best known as one half of the Heavy Metal duo ‘Mystons,’ the new record is a significant departure from his usual fare.
“Dreams of a Middle Aged Man” will be available worldwide on December 18, 2020. All of the songs on the album were written, produced, recorded and performed by Mauri Dark. The album promises to be a dark, folky and personal record. The singer has chosen to forgo the distortion pedals and thundering drums of his earlier music. Instead, the new record is a quiet acoustic work that finds the artist processing significant changes in his life, both good and bad.
I made the songs and lyrics for my debut album amidst the changes of breaking up from a 7-year relationship, my mother’s death of cancer, and finding happiness again, getting married, having a firstborn daughter and making musicMauri Dark
“Thin Line Of Understanding” is Mauri Dark’s latest single, released November 19, 2020. The song is a darkly poetic treatment of the end of a relationship. With only minimal accompaniment the song features the singer alone with his guitar. With his low baritone vocal and deeply cutting lyrics like “I thought I knew you, but you might be someone else,” the song brings to mind the work of the legendary Leonard Cohen. It is an emotionally raw piece of work with a universally relatable premise. It feels like a break-up, with all of the heartache and growth that comes with the territory.
