Johnny Tobasco is a brand new artist on the scene from Cambridge, England. The UK singer/songwriter made his debut in 2020 with the single “The Only Way.” Inspired by the events of 2020, and taking advantage of the downtime we have all experienced this year, Johnny has taken up the pen and hit the recording studio. Since that initial release he has dropped three more singles. His latest is the track “Hot Coffee,” released November 30, 2020.
Getting most of his inspiration from the Alternative Rock world, Tobasco cites influences like; Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks. His sound definitely falls in the “Alt” world. However, as a producer he pulls from multiple genres simultaneously. His music has the exciting experimental energy of newness. There is no better example than on his new single.
“Hot Coffee” opens with the low drone of a pulsing EDM bass line. A downtempo Lo-Fi Hip-hop beat joins the mix as Johnny begins to sing. His vocals add a Bluesy Alt-Folk feel to the track. Lyrically he delivers a melodic stream of consciousness meditation on surviving the present, with an eye to the future. With visual imagery and a string of metaphor he paints an accurate dim view of the world as it is, but also offers uplifting motivation. This is optimism tempered by a healthy dose of realism, which is exactly the type of optimism the world needs right now
