Kev Gray is a British singer/songwriter based primarily in Japan. Since the early 2000’s he has been making a name for himself and his band The Gravy Train in both Tokyo and London. His brand of thoughtful melodic Alternative Pop/Rock has earned him multiple awards, TV and film placements, world tours and a devoted following. Gray’s emotional writing and smooth vocal style have landed comparisons to artists as wide ranging as Sting, Paul McCartney and The Smiths.
“2020 Love Song” is the latest single from Kev Gray and The Gravy Train. As the title suggests, the track is a love song set in the age of COVID. Two lovers are separated by lockdown and struggling to stay together in 2020. The beautiful duet features Kev Gray and London vocalist, Elise Palmer. Although The Gravy Train is an international act even under normal conditions, the pandemic has led Gray to reach even further out across the world for collaborators. Musicians from South Africa, Ukraine, Israel, Germany, and Spain are all featured on the record. Each was recorded in lockdown, globally via the internet.
Despite the thousands of miles separating the band members, “2020 Love Song” has a lovely and intimate vibe. From its tastefully understated piano arpeggios to its softly strummed acoustic guitars, the smooth Alt-Country/Americana tune sounds like it was tracked in a candlelit Nashville studio. An accordion adds some really cool flavor as Gray and Palmer almost whisper a heartbreaking duet of longing and love. It is a beautifully written and expertly, sincerely performed piece.
