Lucas Berloff Takes A Chill Drive In His Carro Preto

Lucas Berloff is a Brazilian singer/songwriter, born and raised in São Paulo but now based in London, England. Growing up he loved all of the arts; drawing, acting, painting and of course music. When he was 21 years-old he moved across the Atlantic to pursue his dreams.

The sounds and culture of his home are alive in Lucas Berloff’s music. He blends traditional Brazilian styles with modern Dream Pop and Indie Rock vibes. Since 2019 he has dropped a series of singles and a five song EP, all exploring and further defining the sound. His new song is an excellent example of the artist’s ability to create a cohesive groove from a rich mix of ingredients.

“Carro Preto” (black car) is Lus Berloff’s latest single, released January 1, 2020. The track opens with a Jazzy, classic Bossa Nova combo of acoustic and electric guitar. Lucas enters the mix with a smooth vocal telling a nostalgic story (in Portuguese) about his time as a young man in São Paulo. As the full band joins in, the song gradually transforms into a Pop groove with the warm sounds of live drums, bass and subtle keys. There is a really slick guitar solo in the bridge. However, the heart and soul of the track is the singer’s soulful, smoky and inviting voice. We can feel his the joy as he tells of happy memories from his past

When I used to live in São Paulo, I shared a black car with my parents and I used to drive all around the city with my mates. I lived amazing and weird stories inside that car. Sometimes we could end up on a random beach or some friend-of-a-friend’s house. But I can clearly remember the feeling of freedom.
