Thicky (aka ThickyGotBars) is the professional name of American rapper, singer, songwriter, entrepreneur and philanthropist, June Guzman. Born in sunny California but raised in rainy Seattle, she says each has influenced her sound. In her music, positivity meets realism as she combines tough love with compassion. She made her debut in 2019 with the single “Ohhh.” Each of her three releases to date have made an immediate impact with fans on multiple platforms.
Although her music is decidedly Hip-hop, as an artist Thicky is inspired by multiple genres including; Latin, Pop, R&B, Doo-wop, Alternative, Electronic, and Jazz. These influences shine through in her unique style of combining soulful singing with legit Rap technique. With over eight thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, fans are obviously picking up on the singer’s vibe.
“It’s a Vibe” is the latest single from Thicky, released on December 31, 2020. The track is an excellent example of the artist’s unique hybrid sound. Rolling on a laid back Trap beat, melodic percussion and a smooth low bass set the mood. Meanwhile the singer gives a cool accounting of her roll through a day. Vocally, she slides smoothly between rhyming and singing, with R&B inflections and a smooth Hip-hop flow. In the chorus she drops the song’s title in a cool, descending funky soul riff.
