Quiet Bastard is the professional name of aspiring Alt/Hip-hop artist, Brock Pearce. A native of Houston Texas, Brock currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. He made his debut on SoundCloud four years ago. Since then he has dropped a steady string of laid back Emo Rap tracks. He launched his music career at the age of 17 as a sort of dare to himself. Or as he says, “A friend made a really bad song and I thought, I could do better.”
“Break” is the latest single from Quiet Bastard, released to SoundCloud and YouTube on January 12, 2021. The track opens with melodic ambient keys and a low rumbling bass. A low and slow Trap beat enters the mix as Brock starts rapping. The song is the sound of a young man feeling bad about a girl he once had. In his signature chilled slacker flow he delivers a universally relatable tale, a mellow meditation on the end of a relationship. He is confused and angry, but mostly sad. And that is a place we’ve all been before.
Throughout the tune, producer Lix mixes melodic synth and bell tones with a funky downtempo beat. It is the perfect backdrop for this lonely heartbreak of a song. Check out “Break,” below.
