Jhunfiyell is an up and coming R&B singer/songwriter. The New Jersey based artist made his debut in early 2020 with the ambitious twenty track album, “For Us.” That record introduced his unique style, combining hard Hip-Hop beats with smooth, downtempo soul music. His sound matches Trap grooves with ambient synths and the singer’s own laidback mood and smooth falsetto. He credits R&B and Hip-hop artists like Young Thug, Future, and Jhené Aiko as inspiration. We can hear their influence in his confident technique.
“29 (Prod. 101)” is the latest single from Jhunfiyell, and his first of the new year. Released on January 15, 2021 to SoundCloud, the song finds the artist in his signature chill R&B vibe. The track moves on a beat that is one part Trap and one part old-school breakbeat. It is a great groove that combines modern drum sounds with traditional Hip-hop rhythms. Atmospheric synths and vocal samples create an ethereal mood. The singer tells a tale of lost love and laments the passing of a new year as he flows smoothly between spoken-word melodic rap and a soulful R&B croon. It is music for dimming the lights and vibing alone.
Originally from the Philippines, Jhunfiyell moved to the US when he was 8 years old. Music was his education, helping him learn English. And it was his escape. Life took him on some tough turns in his early years, even leaving him homeless at one point. Music has always been, and continues to be his salvation
Writing about my breakups and family issues helps me process things. When I was homeless in Newark, all I needed was a beat and my Notes app to help me get through the day. I’m a big dreamer. I write about my goals and ways to achieve it using words and rhymes.
