COY Swede Drops New EDM/Pop Groove

COY Swede is the professional name of Swedish EDM producer, Thom Maximus Holmberg. Since his 2019 debut, the talented DJ and composer has released a steady string of successful singles. In a relatively short time he has made a big splash in the EDM world. His songs have received hundreds of thousands of spins on multiple streaming platforms. His song “You Are” was recently voted one of the best songs of 2020 by the popular EDM blog, Electro Wow

“Believe in Us,” is the latest single from COY Swede, released to all major streaming services on January 21, 2021. The producer regularly collaborates with vocalists from around the world. For this, his seventh single he has teamed up with singer Camila Carballo who delivers a stellar performance.

Holmberg chose to lean a bit more into the Pop arena on “Believe in Us,” both to test himself and to show his diversity. He is a creative composer and engineer, using unique vocal mixing techniques and song arrangements. He did not let the Pop influence stymie that creativity. Instead, he embraced it. Rather than rely on a standard verse/chorus/verse/chorus arrangement, Thom lets the beat evolve as “Believe in Us” progresses.

The song opens with ambient synths and Camila’s smooth Pop vocal. Soon the beat drops, and from there the groove shifts through a number of different phases. It is a rich mix of syncopated percussion and rhythmic synth melodies floating in the periphery. At the heart of the track is a driving EDM beat and Camila’s pleading vocal asking her lover, “Why won’t you believe in us?” For all the creative engineering, Thom never loses sight of the Pop element. It’s a great dance track with an infectious hook.
