At first blush, Zander Jett’s story would seem like that of a pretty typical American teenager. The Ocean City, Maryland 17 year-old likes to surf, plays piano and on the weekends likes to gig. However, scratch the surface and you’ll find that there is a lot more to the story.
Zander doesn’t just play a little piano. He is an accomplished songwriter who, despite his young age has been at it for years. He wrote his first tune at just 10 years old. He made his professional debut when he was only 13 with the single “1 Thing.” Since then, the prolific young artist has released two EPs, and in 2020 he dropped his debut full length album “Far & Wide”
“If You’re Leaving” is the latest single from Zander Jett, released to all major streaming services on February 6, 2021. The track is a lovely Indie Pop torch song in which the singer pleads for his love not to leave. Over a laid back organic arrangement of piano, bass, drums, acoustic and electric guitars he sings, “I know I know, you wanna move on by yourself. But I know, I know I won’t love somebody else.” It is a simple and heartbreaking sentiment set to an immediately memorable melody.
“If You’re Leaving” is a great song, regardless of the songwriter’s age. Zander will be attending Belmont University’s Songwriting program in Nashville, Tennessee next fall where he looks forward to diving into songwriting theory and producing more music. The fact that he is already producing material of this caliber bodes well for the music scene in Nashville.
