Daimond Axe is an aspiring multidisciplinary artist from Western Pennsylvania. Axe works active projects in a number of media including; fashion design, graphic design, painting and Hip-Hop. Throughout his life Daimond Axe was an avid Hip-hop fan and got into writing rhymes at a young age. However, during those years the idea of performing as a professional rapper was little more than a dream for him. Now as an adult he has decided to develop his technique to finally pursue the dream that eluded him in his youth.
The rapper comes at his music with an old-school style. His heroes have always been the greats from the Golden Era of Hip-hop. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, emcees elevated the music to a poetic artform. East Coast rappers like Chuck D, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One and LL Cool J brought style and substance to the genre and created some of the greatest popular music of the late 20th century. Soon afterward, West coast legends like Ice T, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube brought the reality of their lives to the music and elevated it yet again.
Axe’s mission is to bring that level of artistry back to modern day Hip-Hop. He’s getting it started with his YouTube channel. For the past few months Daimond Axe has dropped a series of videos featuring his new take on the old-school. His most recent video is a trippy tune called “Dalai Lama Freestyle.” Over a psychedelic backing track set to a breakbeat rhythm and random surreal video images he delivers a stream of consciousness freestyle rap.
