David Arn is an old friend of The Static Dive. The Virginia Beach based singer, songwriter and producer has appeared on these pages a number of times. He released a series of singles last year which eventually became the concept album “Traveler Tales.” The record is a collection of first-person narratives from one of fourteen travelers on a common journey, loosely based on Chaucer’s classic “Canterbury Tales.”
Not your typical singer/songwriter, David is a sort of serial collaborator. With each of his releases he introduces listeners to a new group of his seemingly endless list of talented friends. His creations are populated by California dancers, Midwestern photographers and musicians of all stripes and origins. On his first new singles since the release of “Traveler Tales,” David has once again called upon his creative friends.
“The Only Truth I Know” is the new single from David Arn, released worldwide to all major streaming services on February 2, 2021. The song is a slow acoustic Folk/Blues tune featuring David on vocals accompanied by the brilliant guitar stylings of Tobias Wilson. Lyrically the track finds David freely associating images of the 2020 lockdown with those of a past romance that was prematurely interrupted. It’s a cool, dark tale set to a remarkable black and white video of the strikingly empty streets of New York City. The film was shot by Brooklyn filmmaker, William Murray.
I asked him to simply go out at night and film what he saw. The word “simply” is not in his vocabulary. He created a gem. The magic of the video is for me the perfect collaboration of our talents at a time when we were forced to remain distant.
