Forsaken Garden is the professional name of Mauricio Arrue. The New Jersey based vocalist, composer, and multimedia artist is making his debut in 2021 with a deep dark vibe that’s bringing a bit of old-school Post-punk melodrama and Psychedelic cinema to the world of modern Indie Rock. To date Arrue has released two singles, each exploring the shadows between modern day experimental Rock and Electronic music and the sounds of 80s and 90s Dark Wave classics.
“Fruitful Dilemma” is a new single from Forsaken Garden, released worldwide in January to all major streaming services. The song’s video debuted on February 15, 2021. The film depicts surreal psychedelic scenes and images of societal decay. Meanwhile a downtempo, Industrial drum machine march drives the tune forward at a slow and ominous pace. A rumbling bass guitar fills the void with dark energy. Delayed guitars create a hypnotic vibe as backdrop to Mauricio’s haunting vocals. The singer enters the mix, delivering a deep melodic monologue reminiscent of 80’s Goth crooners like Nick Cave or Peter Murphy. He recites esoteric poetry rife with dark drama and even a touch of Latin.
Mauricio Arrue’s creation is borne of a great tradition of Dark Wave Rock and Electronic music. Forsaken Garden is of the same universe as great 80s bands like Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure, as well as later 90s Industrial Goth acts like White Zombie and NIN. It’s all about back eyeliner, mood lights and altered states. And it’s a lot of fun. Check out the “Fruitful Dilemma” video, below. You can also hear the song on the Deep Indie Dive playlist.
