Yung Derko in the professional name of Washington DC rapper and songwriter Derrick Dion Woods Jr. Woods had a tough time growing up. He and his mother moved frequently as she struggled to make ends meet, taking a series of odd jobs. As he and his mother struggled he saw other kids in the neighborhood thriving, making fast big money through various illegal means.
Derrick avoided the temptation of the street by focusing on music. He started rapping at just 11 years-old. By the time he was 15 he had signed to his father Derrick Dion “Bo” Woods Sr’s music management group, WiseMindz Entertainment. Young Derko was born.
Since making his international debut last year, Yung Derko has released three singles and now a brand new video. On March 8, 2021 the rapper debuted “Change It.” On the track he is joined by LOS$$. The two rhyme about changing up the modern rap scene. Invoking the names of legendary rappers like Kurtis Blow, Derko rhymes with an old-school attitude and new-school sound over a hard 808 Trap beat with a dramatic, cinematic choral backing track.
