Newmercedes Drops Some Breakup Poison

Newmercedes is a singer and songwriter who only recently started making music. However, despite that fact he has already released over two dozen songs since his 2020 debut. With his first single “Heartthrob” he established his guitar-centric, Emo/Trap vibe. It is a sound he has continued to build upon and refine since.

The Phoenix-based artist is a bit of an enigma. He describes himself simply as, “Just a dude living in Arizona! Trying to make it in this world.” Among his influences he lists Lil Peep and Vincent Van Gough. Lyrically his songs deal with interpersonal relationships and all of the conflict and confusion that come with the territory.

Along those lines arrives his new single. “Poison” is a Power Pop, Emo/Trap track set to a funky, Reggaeton beat. The singer explains that the song was inspired by a recent split with his girlfriend. In a continuous narrative, he chronicles the series of events which led to his current circumstance. However, against his better judgement he would go back even if her kiss was poison. He delivers his tale in a classic Emo style while layered electric guitars create a Pop Punk wall of sound.
